During our ten days together, we will experience breathtaking scenery, castles, museums and ancient historical sites during the day and live music at night, including some special private concerts.
Your tour includes stays in 4-star eco-friendly hotels when available, breakfast every day and 5 group dinners. Here's our tentative itinerary. The finalyzed tour may vary slightly and will be emailed to all participants closer to time:
Days 1-4: Fly into Edinburgh, rest for awhile or meander the Royal Mile before meeting for a group dinner in our private dining room. Our first three days and nights will be spent in Edinburgh, seeing the sights around the gothic capital city of Scotland, including a visit to nearby Rosslyn Chapel and Glen with a private guide. During our stay in Edinburgh, we will meander through storybook neighborhoods and mysterious wynds and closes (narrow walking paths off of the streets) and hear some of the fascinating history that spans generations. We will visit Edinburgh Castle that was home to kings and queens for centuries and Calton Hill, one of the most famous urban hikes in the world where we can take in the skyline of this city of light and dark. You'll explore the Royal Mile, museums and historical monuments while enjoying sights, sounds and tastes that are sure to be memorable. In the evenings, we will gather for great Scottish music and perhaps sample a single malt or two. Our home in Edinburgh will be the Radisson Blu Hotel in the City Centre.
Day 4-7: We travel to Pitlochry, the heart of Scotland, where we will take short day trips to castles, cathedrals, monuments, and distilleries. Raven will share some of the dramatic history that has spawned legends such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and Mary Queen of Scots while visiting sites such as Dunkeld Cathedral, Blair Atholl Distillery, the Pictish Dunfallandy stone and bronze age Crannog in Loch Tay, and 'Birnam Woods' mentioned in Shakespeare's famous Scottish Play. In the evenings, we will journey to local pubs for more live music. Our three night home in Pitlochry will be Atholl Palace Hotel which is also the convenient site of Atholl Palace Museum.
Day 7-9: We travel west through stunning Glencoe where we will stay for two nights at the lovely Ardanaiseig Hotel, where the slopes of Ben Cruachan fall into the clear waters of Loch Awe. This luxurious country house will be our peaceful and pampered home while we explore Argyl and the west Highlands by day and settle into musical evenings. We'll visit romantic Dunnstaffnage Castle and the ruins of Kilchurn as well as the scenic sea-side village of Oban and Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne. For those who love history, Raven will share more of the romantic and tragic tales of this legendary land.
Day 9: We journey back to Edinburgh for an afternoon of your own exploration before meeting for our farewell group dinner and overnight again at the Radisson Blu.
Day 10 (May 8) Shuttles to the airport for those returning home.
