Hometown Tour
Note this is a Sample Itinerary: Hotels and routes may change. You'll be emailed the final itinerary one month before departure, but even then we always leave space for the unexpected finds and last minute discoveries!
What better way to get to know your neighbors? We loved the first one, so I was asked if I was gonna do it again. Sure! I've worked out a new route with new experiences, while also keeping one of our 3 night stays in Dunkeld, a tour favorite. During our ten days together, we will experience breathtaking scenery, castles, museums and ancient historical sites and be treated to some private concerts at night. Note: this is a moderately active tour with some walks - nothing crazy, but please reach out before booking if you have mobility issues.
Your tour includes stays in 4-star eco-friendly hotels when available, breakfast every day and 4 group dinners. Here's our tentative itinerary. The finalized tour may vary slightly and will be emailed to all participants closer to time:
Itinerary
Sept 1-11, 2026
Note: Our tour begins the morning of the 1st so you'll fly in to arrive by Aug 31st and that night before is on your own. We can help with lodging recommendations.
Days 1-3: Our coach will pick us up this morning and we'll head to the Borders, where we will spend 3 nights. During our time here, we'll enjoy lovely walks, great music, local history, a visit to Abbotsford House & Gardens where Walter Scott lived and Melrose Abbey where Rober the Bruce's heart is famously buried, and much more. The Borders is a stunning area with so many stories and it's often overlooked by tourists.
Day 4-6: We travel to Oban, a charming coastal village, which we only had a glimpse of on the first Hometown Tour. From here, we'll do some island hopping and also have ample time to walk, explore and enjoy everything this stunning area has to offer, with an added private concert, author talk and local history during our stay.
Day 7-9: We travel to Dunkeld, along the banks of the River Tay, to meet old friends and new. We'll visit nearby Perth, where the Stone of Destiny is now being housed and meet with local historians to learn more about this rich area. With a number of easy walks from town, you'll have time to meander on your own and lunch and browse in the quaint cafes and shops. This is a music haven, old stomping grounds of Dougie MacLean, who still lives nearby. We will be treated to a private concert as well as an informal music session down by the river one night.
Day 10: We travel through Appin, for a magical hike to remember and lunch at a restaurant on the water that warmly welcomes our groups. Then onto Edinburgh for our final night dinner and sharing.
Day 11: Journey onward or flights home.
Did you know?
Our tours are different than most. We follow a model of Regenerative Tourism, meaning we strive to leave a place better than we found it. Tours are carefully curated to support Scottish communities and be mindful of areas that are overtouristed. You will be seeing Scotland with local guides and friends who show up to share music and stories. You will not be seeing this enchanting land through a coach window with quick stops. We take our time and a portion of every tour goes back to conservation efforts in the areas we visit. Thanks for supporting small businesses and community efforts around Scotland!
